Somebody Died For You Podcast

Does God still speak today? If God is Love, wouldn't He want to lead us to help hurting and broken people? My name is Corey Peters and I'm the founder of the non-profit ministry, Somebody Died for You (SDFY). These are my stories about how He brought me from my recliner to the streets in pursuit of hurting hearts.

I was talking with two African American pastors of a Baptist Church in Waterloo, Iowa.  Pastor Anderson turns to his wife and says, "Tell her how God brought you to South Chicago".  Halfway through the story she started laughing hard and exclaimed, "God gave a white boy a heart for the ghettos of South Chicago."  We all laughed because God often uses unqualified, inadequate people to serve his purposes.
While driving through Chicago in our van the beautiful skyscrapers glistened in the sun and reached toward the clouds.  As I looked from the buildings to the people as we kept driving I thought many people looked sad.  We drove by neighborhoods with houses abandoned and windows covered in plywood.  I started praying about how God might use me to impact hearts here.
Just then a picture flashed before my eyes.  In this picture I saw a little girl reaching out her hands toward me with a huge smile on her face.  In my hands I held a basketball.  It was a beautiful picture.  The joy on her face was palpable.  Was God answering my prayer? Did he want a former wrestler from a small town in Iowa to hand out basketballs in Jesus name in Chicago?
This is the first part of a story of how God led us to the streets to give His love, and receive His love from the people we met.  It is also about how He aligned us with wonderful people who are already on the ground serving and loving so well in His name.
It is my hope that through my stories God might plant seeds in your heart to go on your own God trip.  It might be opening your Bible again to take a fresh look at Jesus.  It might be across the street to a neighbor in need.  It might be walking and praying in your neighborhood.  It might also be across the world.  LOVE WINS!!

A Homeless Man Dying in a Bush

Saturday Apr 04, 2020

Saturday Apr 04, 2020

Hearing and following God's voice is a wonderful journey. In this episode I share one excursion I took with God in San Diego.
He led me to a man who was homeless living out his final days in a bush. This is one of my favorite stories.
Each time I follow God's voice on a journey it comes with many obstacles along the way. This one was no different. I try to be as honest as I can about different thoughts that go through my head along the way.
This isn't a perfect podcast and I am sure not a great podcast voice. I'm just your average guy trying to follow Jesus. But in the end I think that is what He wants right? To empower the average person to impact the lost and broken for Him. Because we are all lost without Him. I will tell you this journey is one of the greatest of my life and I am so thankful that He started it with me.
I also think hearing and following Holy Spirit's voice is a thing that is missing in many relationships with God today. Jesus said it was to His disciples advantage that He left. If He didn't leave God wouldn't send The Holy Spirit. But who is He? I hope my stories will compel you to start your own journey in hearing and following His voice and plan for your lives. Feel free to stop by somebodydiedforyou.com and email with any questions. I'd love to hear from you. Also please leave a positive review. Thanks!

In this podcast I share two stories that have forever marked my life. God used a young football player to teach me how to get out of my comfort zone and share His love with other people. He used a filthy doll and a beautiful little girl to show me both extreme love and extreme tragedy. I also share what I believe He wants you to learn from these stories.

Driving for years through downtown on Street Ministry we would drive by strip clubs. Often times we would see dancers (I call them Daughters) standing or sitting outside. They looked lost, hurt, broken, and sad.
For years it would just dig at me. Here we are on Street Ministry and just driving by people who were hurting. I asked myself if Jesus would do that, or would He stop. My heart would break every time. I prayed that God would show us a way to bring His hope and His love to these daughters.
I was watching a video about a group who hands out roses to prostitutes in Brazil. It was like The Holy Spirit smacked me in the chest. I knew The Lord was answering my prayer.
I share several true raw stories about my own personal struggle with the need of the situation and the need to hold on to my comfort zone. I also struggled with is this the right thing to do?
To be honest I’ve spent a lot of prayer and energy on all of these.
But God showed up in amazing ways. I will share some stories from time to time about this piece of His ministry through us. There will be many stories that I don’t share.
This episode has some of the best.
Over and over throughout the Bible Jesus stood with the outcast.  He ate with people who others looked down upon.  He was accused of welcoming and eating with notorious sinners.  I often ask myself am I doing what He did?
The reason I titled this Podcast the way I did is I believe it.  I believe that Jesus loves all people.  I believe He was working in the hearts of the daughters, owners, managers, bouncers, and patrons before we ever walked in.  I believe He is still working long after we leave.

A Man who Hates God... Ep.9

Thursday Feb 21, 2019

Thursday Feb 21, 2019

How do you pray for someone who is red faced, incensed with rage, while swearing at you to leave? Earlier that night I prayed that God would lead us to a person who had a hard heart towards Him. Boy did He answer my prayer. But how would He open this man's heart? Only God could write this story.

Does God still speak today? If God is Love, wouldn't He want to lead us to help people who are hurting? My name is Corey Peters. I'm just your average guy who was satisfied with going to church on most Sundays. Then I would put God back on the shelf until next week. God had other plans. These are my stories about how God got me off the recliner and into the streets trying to hear His voice lead me to hurting people. What I've been able to witness has been nothing short of life changing. It is my hope that you will encounter a Jesus that might be more loving and more real today than you've ever imagined. It is my hope that you would encounter a living and active relationship with Him. I pray that you will follow His voice and allow Him to use you and your life to bring the only real hope there is to a world He loves.

This episode is about how God is always working behind the scenes. Especially when you don't expect it. Even in the daily grind of life He is working. In this episode He leads us to a Marine who is at a gas station and is in a hurry. He was a cook for a local restaurant. He was unhappy with how things have turned out in his life.
God had something planned for him this day.
Somebody Died For You is a Non-Profit that was started to intentionally bring the Light, Hope, and Love of Jesus Christ to darkness.
These are true stories of my encounters of learning to listen to His voice while desperately attempting to hold onto my comfort zone.
It is my hope that you might learn to see God in a different light. Know that He is for you. Know that He loves You and has great things planned for your life.
If He can use me He can use anyone.

Tormented by a Demon (Ep. 7)

Monday Sep 03, 2018

Monday Sep 03, 2018

Our encounter with a man who was screaming and banging his hand on a table at a restaurant. After approaching him, he told us that for several years a demon scratched and bit him. He didn't sleep at night. He didn't know how much longer he could keep fighting this. God showed up and used our thimble full of faith in a powerful way.
YOU MATTER! YOUR LIFE HAS GREAT VALUE! BECAUSE SOMEBODY DIED FOR YOU AND HIS NAME IS JESUS!

Go Back!! (Ep. 6)

Wednesday Aug 15, 2018

Wednesday Aug 15, 2018

Sometimes when we knock on a door people are not welcoming. This husband did not want us there. His wife was concerned for our safety. When we started to walk away I believe The Holy Spirit told me to go back. With everything in me I tried to keep walking. But we went back. I was extremely nervous for myself and our group as I knocked on the door in the dark hallway of the apartment building. What was waiting on the other side of the door?
God went back with us. What an amazing experience when we have the courage to follow Him despite what we see.
I also like to include prayer requests from people like you at the end of each episode. Listen, call in, leave one, or pray for a previous request. God still answers prayers.

The Demonic Building (Ep. 5)

Sunday Jul 15, 2018

Sunday Jul 15, 2018

Sometimes The Lord leads you to shine His light into dark places. One man said, "Sometimes when you go looking for trouble you find it. And sometimes you can't get out."
I believe Holy Spirit led us to shine the light and love of Jesus into a building that was the epicenter to all the crime, drugs, and violence in the community.
Does God still speak today? Is God Love? If He does still speak and is love wouldn't He send us to help hurting people? These are my stories of how God brought me from the recliner to the streets in pursuit of hurting hearts. I'm just a husband, father, teacher, and coach who has been impacted by the love of Jesus.
If we want to reach people who have never been reached before then we must be prepared to go where we have not gone before.

Advancing the Love and Light of Jesus Christ at the expense of darkness

Thursday Jun 21, 2018

In this episode I want to share two stories. The first story is one where I missed a chance to bless someone is Jesus name. The reality is I miss it often for one reason or another. When I get it right it is all because of Him. It seems like in order hear His voice and have the courage to follow through there are several that I miss. I feel it is important for me to share stories that don’t work out from time to time too.
But know that God is a good Father. He doesn’t throw us away when we fall or slip. He picks us up, brushes us off and puts us back in the game.
